Your core customers should be at the center of decisions around your business. It is important to understand your customer base and why they buy your products or services. In order to serve your customers, you need to understand why your products and services serve them by knowing who they really are, how they think, and what they value.

Demographics like occupation, marital status, age, education level, and race look at the surface external factors that define a group of people. These factors can help you determine what your customers' needs are and how common their problems are among them.

Psychographics, on the other hand, is the classification of people according to their attitudes and aspirations. It looks at the values that drive our decisions as human beings. Tea drinkers and coffee drinkers have very different values. When it comes to coffee drinkers there are those that brew their coffee at home and those who frequent their coffee shop daily for their coffee fix.

How To Identify Your Target Market

Look at your product or service and ask yourself who could get value from it.

Create profiles for your customer using demographics and psychographics.

Do market research for your industry to find out what is common in your industry.

Look at your competition and try to what they offer and to whom.
